Kathmandu, December 23, 2024 – Golchha Group, one of Nepal’s oldest and most prestigious industrial conglomerates, has joined hands with the Enhanced Skills for Sustainable and Rewarding Employment (ENSSURE) project to launch an industry-led apprenticeship program. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between education and employment by equipping Nepalese youth with market-relevant technical skills.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Shekhar Golchha, Chairman and Managing Director of Golchha Group, and Rabindra Bahadur Singh, Team Leader of the ENSSURE project.
Under the agreement, the partnership will focus on:
- Training apprentices in areas such as automobile engineering, mechanical engineering, and information technology.
- Promoting lifelong learning through Skills Upgrading Training (SUT) for employees.
- Integrating green skills into the training curriculum.
- Ensuring workplace safety and occupational health standards across Golchha Group industries.
This collaboration is part of the ENSSURE project, a bilateral initiative between the Governments of Nepal and Switzerland, which implements the dual VET-Apprenticeship model. This innovative model combines theoretical knowledge acquired in technical schools with hands-on industry experience under the guidance of in-company trainers. Apprentices who complete the program will receive pre-diploma certification from the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT).
The dual VET-Apprenticeship program is designed to create a win-win-win situation for all stakeholders:
- Youth gain industry networks, earn while they learn, and receive recognized qualifications.
- Employers benefit from a skilled workforce and increased productivity.
- The government incurs lower costs for technical training and produces market-ready graduates.
Speaking on the occasion, Shekhar Golchha stated, “This collaboration represents our commitment to empowering Nepalese youth with the skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive job market. It is an investment in the future of Nepal’s industrial and economic growth.”
Rabindra Bahadur Singh emphasized the program’s significance, saying, “This collaboration with Golchha Group is a milestone in Nepal’s journey towards a skilled workforce. By aligning vocational training with industry demands, we are addressing the skill gap and contributing to economic progress.”
Golchha Group, which operates over 100 companies across various sectors, aims to use this initiative to nurture local talent and contribute to Nepal’s industrial development. This partnership marks a significant step towards creating a sustainable and skilled workforce, fostering economic growth, and preparing Nepalese youth for the demands of the global job market.
